Who writes the stories?
Anyone who wants to write a short story for children can become an author. They just need to register with the website to be able to upload stories. So, our stories come from a wide range of authors.
Are the stories reviewed for appropriateness?
Stories are automatically screened for profanity and other inappropriate words. However, since different parents have different ideas of what is appropriate, we recommend that you read all stories before sharing them with your children. Finally, we have a system that allows you to flag stories that are inappropriate. Stories that are flagged will be manually reviewed.
What if I do not like a story? Can I return it?
Since there is no way to really return a story, we do not offer refunds on stories.
How do I buy stories?
Authors set the price for their stories with a minimum of $0.99. You can purchase individual stories at their set price or you can buy credit packs that bring down the prices of stories. Annual Memberships include your first 3 stories per month at $0.99 per story. Purchases can be made via PayPal or with a major credit card (MasterCard, Visa).
How do I adjust the text size for reading on screen?
Most browsers allow you to adjust the size of the text. This function will usually be found under a ‘View’, ‘Page’ or ‘Tools’ menu, depending on your browser type, and will be called something like ‘Zoom’. It is important to find the text size which you find most comfortable for reading.
What are ‘pages’ when reading online?
The short stories are broken up into roughly equal ‘pages’ which makes reading easier and also gives some idea of the story’s length.
The ‘page’ numbers – < 1 > – that break up the text double up as buttons. Clicking on the number in the center scrolls that section to the top of the screen – reducing the need for manual scrolling. Clicking on the < moves the previous ‘page’ to the top of the screen; clicking on > moves the next ‘page’ to the top of the screen.
How do I print the short stories?
Before printing you can click on the ‘printable version’ link to the left of the story title. This will format the story so that it is easier to read when printed out. Depending on your browser and OS settings you may also like to adjust the size of the text.
To print, simply make sure the short story’s window is the top one, go to your ‘File’ menu and select ‘print…’ then follow the usual dialogues. For speedier printing, make sure that, if you are given the option, you print the image in ‘Black & White’ rather than ‘Greyscale’. Note that the number of printed pages does not correspond to the number of ‘pages’ which will usually be greater.
How are the stories categorized into age groups?
We strongly recommend that you read each story first before you read them to your child. Most short stories will be suitable for children of all ages. We ask our authors to suggest an age group for their stories in the following categories: 3-5, 6-9, 10-12, 13+. If reader comments or Flags suggest otherwise, we will change the age group for a story.

Authors have the option of putting there stories into the following categories:
Fiction (Fiction, Historical Fiction, Modern Fantasy, Mystery)
Traditional Literature (Fables, Fairy Tale, Folk Tale, Legend, Myth)
Picture Story Books (Picture Books, Picture Story Books)
Poems & Drama (Nursery Rhyme, Poems, Drama).
If reader comments or Flags suggest that an another category is more appropriate for a story, we will discuss the change with the author.
