Before they could formulate their questions, a gentle soothing presence greeted them.

Good morning my children.

You may call me Gaia.

I am the planet you live on.

I wish to thank you for all that you have done to ensure our survival.

I know that you have many questions.

Here is our tale.

Many years ago a militant species that lived farther out in our solar system, developed a weapon that could destroy entire planets at a time.

In a swift and decisive victory, they wiped out three planets inhabited by their enemies and all their inhabitants.

The death of the planets and everything living on them was felt far and wide and was almost crippling.

An emergency meeting was called by the remaining planets in our solar system and those in the neighboring solar systems.

They concluded that they needed to stop the militants at all cost and would need to sacrifice to do so.

The soul of the militant’s planet agreed to sacrifice itself for the greater good before the next round of attacks began.

It initiated a chain reaction deep in its core that destroyed the planet before the militants could unleash their weapon again.

That explosion caused the cataclysm that damaged all of the planets in our solar system.

As their closest neighbor, we were the most affected.

The bombardment and loss of life was so crippling that I had to retreat into a shell to survive…
